Reading Project Takes Culture to Marabá Municipalities

Tuesday April 2nd, 2013

Named “Rain of Books”, the project to encourage reading, conceived and carried out by the Cultural Institute Hozana Lopes de Abreu, is more than an opportunity to bring culture to children and adolescents who live in municipalities near Marabá. According to Lara Borges, coordinator of the Institute and the Project, “it is a way of forming better citizens and of giving a cultural basis to the people affected by it,” he says.

Project has a playful content and has the help of volunteers

Held with the support of volunteers and through the encouragement of companies such as SINOBRAS, which throughout this year will revert financial resources, through the Minha Comunidade é Mais project, “Chuva de Livros” visits a community with a group of actors characterized by clowns. Under an umbrella from which books “hung” by ribbons “sprout”, the actors do the storytelling, always with a playful content. “The first presentation of“ Chuva de Livros ”took place last month at a school in the São Félix neighborhood and was very good with the participation of a group of children,” he said.

The “Rain of Books” project is part of another larger project called Biblioteca Viva. The intention is to bring art to the most peripheral neighborhoods and other municipalities through interaction with books, with the support of the clown team mixing the arts. According to Lara, other schools will receive a visit from Chuva de Livros.
