To show that it is possible to create a garden with pet bottles and tires, the Cultural Institute Hozana Lopes de Abreu, in the Liberdade district, promoted last week the recyclable garden workshop when children served by the community had the opportunity to learn lessons on how to plant vegetables in pots made from PET bottles and tires that would be discarded.
SINOBRAS helped with the event, through the Minha Community is More Project, which throughout this year will support the institution’s actions. According to the artist Rose Pinheiro, who taught the workshop, “the importance of carrying out the action is to develop one’s own knowledge and share what is known with other people, and that makes a difference,” he said.
Participants started the process from preparing the vases, washing the bottles. Then he was taught to cut and prepare the land for the planting of lettuce, chives, among other vegetables. For Lara Borges, coordinator of the Instituto Hozana Lopes, the project aims to encourage the cultivation of vegetables among children in the community itself so that families can have food for their own consumption at home and encourage recycling. “Our intention is to always have these types of activities for our clients. The support of our partners, such as SINOBRAS, is fundamental to the achievements ”, said Lara.
Once planted, the vegetables will be placed on the internal wall of the institute. A class of students from the José de Souza Municipal School, in the Liberdade neighborhood, participated in the workshop.
