Tuesday February 5th, 2013

Close to celebrating 25 years of career, the artist from Minas Gerais, Leandro Gabriel visited Marabá this month. The purpose of his visit was to invite SINOBRAS to the inauguration of his new studio in Minas Gerais and photograph a sculpture, on permanent display, at Siderúrgica.

Awarded and renowned nationally and internationally, Leandro Gabriel left sculpture as a landmark of his time in the city and more especially as a result of his participation in the SINOBRAS event.

Work was made with scrap for the 1st Environment Week

The work made by Leandro himself, who specializes in scraps, and by company employees, on the occasion of the 1st Sustainability Week held last year, will be part of the book to be launched in 2014 on his 25-year career as an artist .

According to Daniel Moreira, who is photographing the sculptures, “for an artist to launch a book, he needs to have market recognition. It is kind of like an ISO 9000. It is also necessary to have the support of many artists, such as art critics who will write in the book or someone who will raise funds for this, who are usually also the artists.

Book will have more than 1000 works produced by the artist

About 160 works, from a universe of more than a thousand already produced by the artist, will be part of the 200-page book. In addition to the photos, texts by art critics such as Marcus Lontra, General Curator of the “Marcantonio Vilaça” Prize, one of the most important in the field, and Luiz Sérgio de Oliveira, Doctor in Urban Art, from the Fluminense University of Rio de January.

In his second contact with Siderúrgica, Leandro commented: “my relationship with SINOBRAS is the best possible, so my intention is to develop a job with more time and have a partnership that can bring more art to Marabá. Who knows, maybe I can make a sculpture and donate to the city or even make an exchange of artists to exchange knowledge or even a Minas / Pará exhibition? ”

The expectation is that the book will be released later this year. In addition to works exhibited in Brazil, Leandro and Daniel intend to photograph sculptures in Miami and Los Angeles.
