Founded twelve years ago in Marabá, the Child and Adolescent Assistance Foundation (Funcad) is an entity that provides education through sport and music education to 300 children and adolescents from 4 to 17 years of age in the Amapá neighborhood , on the outskirts of Marabá, in addition to serving other neighborhoods in the city. Supported by donations, such as from SINOBRAS, which revert monthly a resource, the entity seeks new partnerships for the improvement and expansion of service.
Guitar, double bass, keyboard, wind instruments, drums, children’s music, karate and football classes are on the grid of activities available to those served. According to pedagogue Rosane Jardim, who is the Treasury Director of the institution, the intention is to increasingly increase the attendance with new activities so that, thus, the objective of rescuing children from social risk, Funcad’s main purpose, is achieved. “In addition to working with children, our desire is also to involve families, because it is useless to provide an education base with values for children within the institution if the reality in their homes is different”, says the educator.
Responsible for training musicians in Marabá who are now in bands such as the Fire Brigade, Funcad still maintains the Banda Shalon, which is made up of 20 members and performs in the city and in neighboring municipalities. After a few months without activities, the work of the band is being resumed, proof of that is that on the 22nd of this month it will perform in the municipality of Canaã do Carajás.
Currently the institution has eight employees who work in the administration, and of these, seven are salaried. According to Pastor Lucas Nunes de Souza, Director-Secretary of Funcad, despite the difficulties and hard work, it is a satisfaction to be able to provide education to children and adolescents in the institution. “I have always been passionate about children and what we do is still little in the face of their need,” he concluded.
