Thriving on a consolidated basis in the market is one of the great challenges of the companies, especially for family businesses, which often run into difficulties as succession and professionalization process.
Brazil has between 6 and 8 million businesses, 90% of them family, but early mortality index of these enterprises is still very high. To get an idea of every 100 Brazilian family businesses, 30% arrive in the second generation and only 5% in the third. The numbers show that many fail to survive this passage or get there with great difficulty.
On this point, the Grupo Aço Cearense, about to turn 37 years next October 15, prepares to experience its succession process with caution and responsibility, seeking to maintain the space conquered in the market year after year.
For this, we have partnered with Oxbridge consulting and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), national and internationally known companies to help large companies to seize consistently the virtuous cycle of the economy.
Founded by the natural Cearense from Marco, Vilmar Ferreira, the company, initially, was “FERRO OK” designed to sell steel for construction and derivatives. With the expansion of business in 1984, it became the Aço Cearense.
Guided in the practice to serve all customers and their different needs, regardless of volume or operation, the company linked its brand to the concept of good business, expanding the range of activities and consequently the customer portfolio.
Today, the Grupo Cearense has five companies – Aço Cearense Comercial, Aço Cearense Industrial, SINOBRAS, SINOBRAS Florestal and Instituto Aço Cearense – Ceara, Para and Tocantins and 22,000 active customers across the country.
In 2015, the Grupo Aço Cearense earned R$ 2,5 billion, and in 2016, even with the delicate moment of the economy the country is facing, revenue forecast is $ 2,0 billion, with a production capacity of 1,000.000 t/year.
By the partnership with Oxbridge and PwC, the Grupo Aço Cearense aims to ensure a healthy and sustainable business growth in the medium and long term. So, it is deployed in the company the Family Office Project that addresses the family, corporate and society governance in the company and will assist in the training of family children to understand the value of the business.
The deployment will last about a year and is led by one of the sons of Vilmar, Wander Ferreira. Already Aline Ferreira, also daughter of the founder of the Group, walks to run the business. After going through various sectors and positions in the company, Aline currently holds the position of Vice President Commercial and Financial of Grupo Aço Cearense.
To cross the delicate economic times facing the country, with a coherent approach, readapting projects and investments, the Grupo Aço Cearense is preparing to retake growth in the coming years.
Currently, the company’s largest project is the SINOBRAS Phase II, of SINOBRAS company, steelmaker located in Para, which will more than double the production capacity, with an investment of US$ 200 million, generating, among other benefits, growth and development to the state of Para and the entire region, as well as new direct and indirect jobs.
