Instituto Aço Cearense encourages sport and congratulates sportsmen on the Day of the Professional Athlete

Wednesday February 10th, 2021

February 10 is celebrated the Day of the Professional Athlete, a date to honor those who are an example of a lot of discipline, perseverance, focus and determination. The Steel Cearense Institute believes that sport is the driving force of well-being and social development, so it supports and encourages athletes who are part of the institution’s history, so they never give up.

Even with the Covid-19 pandemic, athletes supported by the Steel Cearense Institute maintained their training routines, with great care, and gradually began to participate in competitions. Jonathan Benvindo, who has been fighting karate since the age of seven, today, at 17, already has more than 200 medals and podiums around the world. He is still a teenager, but sport is part of his life as a profession. His dream is to become an Olympic athlete and bring great achievements to the country. “Sport has changed my life and that of my family, both financially, socially and culturally. My dream is to be able to live off karate and bring more medals to Ceará and Brazil, ”he says.

For athlete Gilberto Silva, a paraciclista from Ceará sponsored by Instituto Aço Cearense for 10 years, with over 300 podiums throughout his history, the life of a professional athlete is a dream that also began in childhood and was questioned by many people, due to a paralysis that left him with a deficiency in his leg. Despite the difficulties, he never gave up. Currently, Gilberto participates in numerous competitions and was Brazilian champion of paracilcismo in 2017, bronze medal in 2019 and is the current vice-champion of Ceará mountain bike in the Elite category.

It is with these stories that the Steel Cearense Institute is inspired and wants to encourage other companies to support health, well-being and promote sport as a symbol of building values and developing people.
